Historic Hotel Laguna Lease Brokered by Aaron Valenty and Mark D. Simon

New lessees intend to restore and improve the downtown beachfront icon

The landmark Hotel Laguna in Laguna Beach is due for a grand makeover after the beachfront property was acquired in a ground lease brokered by Aaron Valenty and Mark D. Simon in the Corona del Mar office of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties.

New lessees The Honarkar Family/Laguna Beach Company LLC plan a multimillion-dollar interior renovation and exterior upgrade to return the hotel’s original allure and essence. The new lease includes Cliff Village restaurant and bar; the Laguna Vistas mixed use 15-unit residential/retail property; several lots; and a parking lot.

Under the Honarkar family’s guidance, I know that these properties will continue to be the heart and soul of Laguna Beach for generations to come.”

One of the only California beachfront hotels with a grandfathered liquor license for serving alcoholic beverages on the sand, the landmark 68-room oceanfront inn was built in 1930 in the Mission Revival style. It began in 1888 as a 14-bedroom inn by Laguna Beach pioneer Henry Goff, and was developed and expanded into the largest building in town in 1895 by Joseph Yoch, another early settler.

The hotel later became a popular destination for celebrity guests and local elite to gather and stay. It was a popular destination for Hollywood stars such as John Barrymore, Errol Flynn, Rosalind Russell, Humphrey Bogart, and Lauren Bacall, with many guestrooms named after them.
